RedStorm men 18th at Orange & Black Invite

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team posted a 17th place finish in the University of Pikeville's Orange & Black Classic, which completed its two-day run on Sunday at BeaverVu Bowl.
The RedStorm toppled 7,188 pins over the course of five team games and 16 baker contest in the 23-team competition.
The top eight teams after team and backer play broke into a single-elimination bracket to decide a champion, with third-seeded Lawrence Tech knocking off the top-seeded and host University of Pikeville in the title match.

Sophomore Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH) gave Rio its best individual effort, knocking down 986 pins over five games for a 197.2 average, including a team-best 236 in his final game. He finished in 33rd place.
Others who represented the RedStorm on the varsity level were freshman Evin Little (Gallipolis, OH), who was 44th with 962 pins in five games for an average of 192.4; sophomore Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH), who placed 54th with an average of 185.6 after taking down 928 pins in five games; freshman Russell Orris (South Bloomfield, OH), who was 60th with 917 pins in five games for an average of 183.4; freshman Collin Hamilton (Columbus, OH), who finished 167th with 482 pins over three games for an average of 160.7; freshman Hunter Bolender (Mount Orab, OH), who was 211th with a 192 in his only game; and sophomore Carson Rogers (Troy, OH), who had a 117 in his only outing for 227th place.
A total of 250 individuals participated in the tourney.
In the junior varsity division, Rio Grande finished 10th in the 12-team field with 6,536 pins.
Lawrence Tech won the team title with 7,695 pins, while the University of Pikeville took runner-up honors (7,603) and Thomas More University finished third (7,343).
The top individual performance from the RedStorm JV was provided by junior Jacob Ramsey (Norton, OH), who placed 52nd overall with 931 pins over five games for an average of 186.2.
Others who rolled for Rio in the JV bracket were junior Nathan Burns (Lynchburg, OH), who was 76th after averaging toppling 875 pins in five games for a 175 average; sophomore William Lawson (Columbus, OH), who took down 793 pins in five games for an average of 158.6 and 97th place; sophomore Victor Jackson (Pickerington, OH), who finished 106th with 757 pins over five games for a 151.4 average; freshman Brayden Ridgeway (Jackson, OH), who finished 178th with 420 pins in three games for an average of 140; and senior Zach Morris (Vinton, OH), who was 195th with 311 pins in two games and a 155.5 average.
