Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande scored the game's first 10 points and never looked back, cruising to an 84-55 rout of Lindsey Wilson College in the final round of men's division play in the 41st Annual Bevo Francis Invitational, Saturday evening, at the Newt Oliver Arena.
The RedStorm improved to 5-0 with the win.
Lindsey Wilson, a former rival of Rio's when both were members of the River States Conference, slipped to 1-4 with a fourth straight loss.
The Blue Raiders were already down 10-0 by the time that they scored their first points of the contest and were staring at a 15-point deficit after a three-pointer by Rio sophomore Trey Robertson (Waverly, OH) made it 19-4 with 14:15 left before halftime.
Lindsey Wilson chopped the deficit in half near the midway point of the opening stanza when a Connor Robinson layup with 10:17 remaining in the period made it 22-15, but the RedStorm responded with a 9-0 run over the next three-plus minutes to push their advantage to 16 points and led by no less than 10 points the rest of the way.
Rio Grande settled for a 14-point cushion at the intermission and led by as many as 32 points inside the final 90 seconds of the contest.
The RedStorm shot 53.7 percent overall (29-for-54) and - just hours after going 3-for-25 from three-point range in a win over Miami-Middletown - was 15-for-30 from distance against the Blue Raiders.
Sophomore Kaden Warner (Cincinnati, OH) scored a game-high 24 points and had four steals to lead the winning effort in just his second appearance of the season. He finished 8-for-14 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from distance.
Senior Miki Tadic (Hilversum, The Netherlands) hit four trifectas of his own en route to a 20-point performance, while Robertson was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points.
Junior Eythan House (Melbourne, Australia) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds in the victory and junior Khamani Smith (Fort Wayne, IN) tied a career-high with five assists.
Kenyata Carbon led Lindsey Wilson with 17 points, while Lucas Ribeiro had 11 points and five rebounds and Rodney Lewis tacked on 11 points of his own.
The Blue Raiders shot just 36 percent (18-for-50), were outrebounded, 33-30, and committed 16 turnovers.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday night when it hits the road for a game at No. 11-ranked Indiana Wesleyan.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
