RedStorm men clobber Celtics

Rio Grande Sports Information
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In the 2017-18 regular season finale, a loss at Carlow University prevented the University of Rio Grande men's basketball team from earning a spot in the River States Conference tournament.
On Tuesday night, the RedStorm made sure another loss to the Celtics wasn't in the cards.
Head coach Ken French's club built a 14-point halftime lead and then scored 20 of the first 22 points in the second half to fuel a 90-62 rout of their East Division counterparts at Oakland Catholic High School's Donahue Pavillion.
Rio Grande improved to 9-14 overall and 3-7 in league play with its most lopsided win over a conference opponent since a 98-66 rout of Carlow at home on Dec. 2, 2017.
The Celtics fell to 1-21 overall and 0-9 in the RSC with a 21st consecutive loss. The club's only win this season came in an 88-71 triumph against Bryant and Stratton College in the season opener on Nov. 4, 2018.

Rio Grande led for all but 40 seconds of the contest. The scoreless tie at the game's beginning accounted for 14 seconds of that total.
Carlow's only lead of the game came at 7-6 on a jumper in the lane by Travis Jordan with 16:58 left in the first half.
A bucket by Rio junior Greg Wallace (Montego Bay, Jamaica) 26 seconds later gave the RedStorm a lead it would never relinquish.
Rio's advantage reached as much as 16 points late in the half before settling at 14 points, 42-28, at the intermission.
The RedStorm then erased any hopes the Celtics had of making a second half comeback by scoring the first 13 points and 20 of the first 22 points in the second half, opening up a 62-30 cushion following a pair of free throws by sophomore Ajdin Maksumic (Konjic, Bosnia-Herzegovinia) with 13:52 left to play.
Rio's biggest lead of the night - 38 points - came just over 5-1/2 minutes later when a three-pointer by sophomore Kyle Lamotte (Mason, OH) made it 73-35 and Carlow got no closer than 26 points the rest of the way.
Lamotte finished with a career-high 26 points, sparked by a 6-for-9 performance from behind the three-point arc.
The RedStorm, which had 10 of its 11 players in uniform score at least two points, had three others finish in double figures.
Junior Cameron Schreiter (Mason, OH) and Maksumic tossed in 12 and 11 points, respectively, while freshman Joshua Anthony (Newnan, GA) had 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Carlow, which shot just 30 percent overall (23-for-76) while being out rebounded, 52-37, was led by Michael Truong's 14-point effort. Jordan finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Brenlee Reedy handed out a game-best seven assists.
Rio Grande, which played its first game without the services of sophomore guard Gunner Short (Catlettsburg, KY), who suffered an ankle injury in practice on Monday, returns to action on Thursday night at Indiana University-Kokomo.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
