MARBURY, Md. - University of Rio Grande sophomores Cameron Burgess and Tyler Eggers posted a sixth-place finish in Major League Fishing's Abu Garcia College Tournament on the Potomac River presented by Columbia PFG.
The tournament, which as hosted by the Charles County Recreation, Parks and Tourism, wrapped up on Sunday.
Burgess, who hails from Oxford, Ohio, and Eggers - from Jackson, Ohio - brought in 12 lbs.-08 oz. of Potomac River bass to the scales and - by virtue of their Top 6 showing - punched their ticket to the 2026 Major League Fishing National Championship.
Burgess and Eggers became the second team in program history to earn a spot in the nationals on the MLF side.
"I'm very excited for Cameron, Tyler and our program," said Rio Grande head coach Tom Sutton. "This was a tough one and these two truly put in the work during practice days and the time leading up to the event and left it on the water. Their dedication and drive have really paid off and it's so great to see it all come together for this young duo and our entire team."
The RedStorm had a strong all-around performance, with all three of its teams crossing the stage with an event limit of five fish.
Sophomores Noah Cremeens (Gallipolis, OH) and Coen Davis (Jackson, OH) finished the event in 23rd place with 8 lbs.-14 oz., while seniors Cody Brumfield (Gallipolis, OH) and Alex McCarty (Bloomingburg, OH) were right behind in 26th place with 8 lbs.-06 oz.
Heading into the event, Rio Grande was ranked just inside the MLF National Top 50 in 49th place overall with two more qualifying events this fall to finish off the MLF season.
The Redstorm will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Paris, Tenn. for the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) Berkley Baits BIG BASS BASH out of Paris Landing State Park Marina.
