Rio Grande releases 2025 football schedule

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande's long-dormant football program will spring back to life with a pair of home contests to highlight a 10-game slate of contests.
School officials released the entire 2025 schedule on Monday.
The RedStorm will host an interstate battle with Defiance College on Saturday, Aug. 30 and will entertain Georgetown (Ky.) College one week later on Sept. 6. Kickoff for both games are set for 3:30 p.m.
Rio Grande, which will be fielding a football team for the first time since the close of the 1949 season, will play all of its home games at nearby Jackson High School's Alumni Stadium.
Following the consecutive home outings, head coach Mark Thurston's team will enjoy a week off before hitting the road for the first time with a trip north into Michigan to face defending NCAA Division II national champion Ferris State University on Sept, 20 at 3 p.m.
After another open date, the RedStorm will return to action on Oct. 4 when they host Kentucky Christian University at 2 p.m. in their first Appalachian Athletic Conference game.
Rio's final two home games are slated for Oct. 18 against Union (Ky.) Commonwealth and Nov. 1 versus Reinhardt (Ga.) University. Kickoff for the Union game is set for 3:30 p.m., while the contest with Reinhardt is set for a 2 p.m. kick.
The remainder of the RedStorm's schedule finds road games with the University of Pikeville (Ky.) on Oct. 11, at Point (Ga.) University on Oct. 25, and at Bluefield (Va.) University on Nov. 8.
