FOLEY, Ala. - The University of Rio Grande archery team has captured the 2025 HotelPlanner USA Archery Collegiate 3D National Championship, marking a historic moment for the RedStorm program in only its second year of competition.
Led by head coach Jonathan Clemins, the RedStorm put together a dominant weekend performance across all divisions, culminating in the program's first-ever overall national title.
"We're thrilled to win this," said Clemins. "But I was confident coming in because of how strong of a team we have. I knew the way trained, not only on the range but also in the gym. And then there's the mental training we do, head-to-head matches, team rounds - the team is training from daylight to literally after dark."
Rio Grande recorded a total score of 167.0 en route to its championship, which came in a field of 36 competitors and snapped a streak of seven straight titles for the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). The Patriots finished second with a score of 135.5 and Texas A&M placed third with a score of 93.0.
"I had no doubts coming into this event that we were going to be strong and able to compete and it all played out in our favor, and we had a great weekend," Clemins added.
Rio Grande had six individual medalists in the competition, including a trio of first-place finishers.
AJ Clements took top honors in Olympic Recurve, while Alyssa Lewis was first in Barebow and Danielle Pollard won in Fixed Pins.
Cameron Senay was the runner-up in Olympic Recurve and Bronson Ormes placed second in Barebow, while Lea-Lynn Gregorio took third place in Olympic Recurve.
The RedStorm also recorded four Mixed Team podium performances including first place in Recurve and Barebow, second place in Fixed Pins and third place in Compound.
Rio also had eight top three showings in the Official Team rounds.
The RedStorm placed first in Men's Recurve, while claiming runner-up finishes in five categories - Women's Recurve, Men's and Women's Barebow and Men's and Women's Compound. Third-place outings came in Women's Fixed Pins and Mixed Equipment.
