    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – University of Rio Grande left fielder Kaylee Walk was named to the All-Mid-South Conference Softball first team, while right fielder Haley Gwin and pitcher Kimber Hazlett both received second team honors during the league's annual awards banquet, Friday night, prior to the start of MSC Tournament at the Allandale Mansion in Kingsport, Tenn.
    Walk, a senior from Unionville Center, Ohio, led the RedStorm in batting (.413), hits (57), runs (42) and stolen bases (23). She also tied Gwin for the team lead in triples with four.

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Five players representing the University of Rio Grande were among the 61 student-athletes who were named to the 2013 Academic All-Mid-South Conference softball team prior to the start of the league's post-season tournament, which got underway last weekend in Kingsport, Tenn.
    In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status.

    KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The University of Rio Grande took two of the top teams in the Mid-South Conference to the brink on Saturday afternoon, but bowed out of MSC Tournament play with a pair of losses at rainy Domtar Park.
    The RedStorm watched 25th-ranked and MSC regular season co-champion Campbellsville rally for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to post a 5-4 win, while Georgetown College repeated the trick with a three-run sixth inning rally for a 4-1 victory in a loser's bracket elimination contest.
    Rio Grande, which was seeded seventh in the eight-team tournament, finished its season at 22-19.

    WISE, Va. – The University of Virginia's College at Wise extended its winning streak to 12 straight games as the Cavaliers closed out their regular season schedule with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Rio Grande, Monday afternoon, in Mid-South Conference softball action at Cavalier Field.
    The Cavaliers squeaked out a 2-1 win in the opener before dealing the RedStorm a mercy rule-shortened 10-2 loss in game two.
    Rio Grande, which was also playing its final two regular season outings, slipped to 22-17 overall and 11-15 in league play with the two losses.
    Wise improved to 30-19 overall and 18-10 in the MSC.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande closed out the home portion of its 2013 softball schedule by splitting a Mid-South Conference doubleheader with Cumberland (TN) University on Sunday afternoon at Rio Softball Park.
    The RedStorm parlayed a quick start and a strong pitching performance by Kimber Hazlett into a 3-1 opening game win, while the Bulldogs rebounded to post a 3-0 victory in the finale.
    The split left Rio Grande at 22-15 overall and 11-13 in the MSC.
    Head coach Kristen Bradshaw's team will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming MSC Tournament, which begins on Saturday at Domtar Park in Kingsport, Tenn.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Haley Gwin's one-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning scored teammate Jaymie Rector from third base, giving the University of Rio Grande a 4-3 game two win over the University of the Cumberlands and a doubleheader sweep of the Patriots, Saturday afternoon, in Mid-South Conference softball action at Rio Softball Park.
    The RedStorm made an early stand up for a 2-1 win in the opening game.
    Rio improved to 21-14 overall and 10-12 in league play with the sweep, securing a spot in next weekend's MSC Tournament at Domtar Park in Kingsport, Tenn., regardless of what it does in its final four regular season games.
    Cumberlands dropped to 10-34 overall and 4-24 in the MSC.
