LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande baseball team has been picked to finish eighth in the Mid-South Conference's 2012 preseason coaches' poll.
The RedStorm received 15 points in the voting, which was released by conference officials late last week. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

NEW MARKET, Va. - University of Rio Grande assistant baseball coach John Combs has been named the head coach of the New Market Rebels for the 2012 season.
The Rebels are part of the Valley Baseball League, an NCAA-sanctioned summer baseball league centered in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. The league, one of eight in the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball, began in 1923 and has been sanctioned by the NCAA since 1961.

Coach Brad Warnimont and the RedStorm baseball program have decided to expand their Fall Baseball Academy to include instruction for ages 6 -18 in the areas of hitting, defense, and pitching. Starting Saturday, September 10th and running every Saturday until October 8th at Bob Evans Field on the campus of the University of Rio Grande, an hour of instruction is offered in hitting, defense, and pitching. Sessions will start at 10:00 am and will end at approximately 1:00 pm each Saturday.
The University of Rio GrandeBaseball team continued to add to its roster with the latest signing of Justin Cavender of Point Pleasant. Justin signed his letter of intent to play baseball beginning in the 2011-2012 season.
