    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Tyanna Petty set a trio of school records to fuel the efforts of the University of Rio Grande women's track and field team at a pair of meets last weekend.
    Petty, a freshman from Somerset, Ohio, compiled a personal-best and school record 3,114 points in the Pentathlon for an overall finish of fourth place at the Fred Wilt Invitational hosted by Purdue University, last Friday, in West Lafayette, Ind.
    Over the course of the five events which go toward determining an overall winner, Petty also set new personal records in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump. She had the third-best finish in the high jump with an effort of 1.64m and was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.90.

    BEREA, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande is the top pick to win the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship according to the league's preseason Women's Track & Field coaches' poll released Tuesday.
    The RedStorm received three of a possible four first-place votes and nine points in the balloting of the KIAC head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

    CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Freshman Katie Browning took top honors in the pole vault, while Tyanna Petty set a new school record in the high jump and Nichole Worsham broke the school record in the 3,000-meter race walk that she'd set one week earlier as the University of Rio Grande women's track and field team posted a third-place finish at Friday's Cedarville University Collegiate Indoor Invite.
    Browning, a native of Athens, Ohio, cleared 9-00.25 to easily capture the pole vault title by more than six inches.
    Petty, a freshman from Somerset, Ohio, set a new school record of 5-03.75 in the high jump for a second place finish and, at the same time, secured a spot in the NAIA Nationala Championships by meeting the "B" qualifying standard of 1.62m.
    Worsham, a sophomore from Beavercreek, Ohio, finished eighth in the 3,000-meter race walk with a new school record and personal-best time of 16:35.92, bettering the mark of 16:59.77 that she'd established at the Findlay University Indoor Track & Field Classic.
    The NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for March 5 in Geneva, Ohio.

    FINDLAY, Ohio - A trio of new school records were established by a handful of athletes representing the University of Rio Grande at the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Classic, which took place Friday and Saturday, at the Malcolm Athletic Center on the Findlay University campus.
    Nichole Worsham, a sophomore from Beavercreek, Ohio, set a school record and hit the "B" standard to qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships by virtue of her seventh-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter race walk. She crossed the line in a personal-best time of 16:59.77.
    Also on the women's side, freshman Tyanna Petty (Somerset, OH) set a new school record in the Pentathlon with 2,756 points.
    Sophomore Floyd Lowry (St. Paris, OH) set a new school record in the Heptathlon with 4,028 points. He also qualified for the NAIA nationals in the process, but will have to wait until the end of the season to see if his score ranks among the top 16 in the country.

    WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Four athletes had a pair of top 10 finishes to fuel the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team in its season opener at Saturday's Otterbein Invitational hosted by Otterbein University.
    The quartet helped the RedStorm total 33.75 points as a team to take eighth place among the 15 competing schools.
    Tiffin University grabbed the team title with 196.5 points, while host Otterbein (137) and Ohio Dominican University (62) completed the top three.
    John Carroll University (49) and Wittenberg University (45) rounded out the top five.

    WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's and women's track and field teams open their respective 2015 schedules on Saturday at the Otterbein Invitational.
    The event, which is expected to attract athletes from more than 20 schools, is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
    The season opener marks the debut of Rio's "new and improved" program, which now boasts nearly 80 athletes combined.
