    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande opened its 2014 by sweeping the college division championships at the 44th Annual Rio Grande/Patty Forgey Cross Country Invitational, Saturday afternoon, at the University of Rio Grande.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - More than 500 runners representing 39 schools in six divisions will be on the University of Rio Grande campus on Saturday for the 2014 Patty Forgey Invitational cross country meet.
    The event, which is in its 44th year, includes a men's and women's division for college teams, as well as a boys' and girls' division for junior high/middle school teams and high school squads.
    "Aside from the times that we host a conference championship and or advance to anything on the national level, it's safe to say this is the biggest event on our schedule," said veteran Rio Grande head coach Bob Willey. "It's a great way to bring people to our campus and introduce them to the University of Rio Grande. There's a lot of work that goes into it but, at the same time, it also gives our athletes the opportunity to run at home."

    BEREA, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande women's cross country team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2014 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll released Thursday.
    The RedStorm received 44 points in the balloting of the league's 10 coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own squad.

    LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Rio Grande's Brittany Piccone is among the 295 women's cross country athletes named a 2013 Daktronics-Scholar Athlete by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Two members of the University of Rio Grande cross country team - one each from the men's and women's side - have been honored for their accomplishments in the classroom.
    Junior Brittany Piccone and sophomore Kyle Sanborn have both been named to the Mid-South Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
    Piccone, a native of Crooksville, Ohio, is carrying a 3.915 grade point average as an Education major.
    Sanborn, a native of Dover, Ohio, is majoring in Sports & Exercise and currently holds a 3.667 GPA.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's cross country team finished third, while the RedStorm women finished sixth as a team in Saturday's Mid-South Conference championship meet on the URG campus.
    Freshman Blake Freed (Uhrichsville, OH) recorded the top time among the Rio men, completing in the 8k course in a time of 27:06 for 10th place. A total of 98 runners participated in the men's division.
    Junior Brittany Piccone (Crooksville, OH) had the best finish among the RedStorm ladies, crossing the line at the end of the 5k course in a time of 20:07 for a 13th place showing among the 71 runners in the field.
