    MONTGOMERY, W.Va. - The University of Rio Grande men's basketball team used a monster scoring surge over the final 10 minutes of the first half to open up a 25-point halftime lead and the RedStorm went on to post an easy 98-68 win over Barber-Scotia (N.C.) College in the final round of the Neal Baisi Classic, Saturday afternoon, at West Virginia University-Tech's Baisi Athletic Center.
    Rio Grande rebounded from its first loss of the season on Friday to Washington Adventist (Md.) University to get its sixth win in seven tries.
    The Sabres slipped to 1-7 with the loss.

    MONTGOMERY, W.Va. - In the world of sports, it's often said that numbers never lie.
    The University of Rio Grande men's basketball team might beg to differ, though.
    Washington Adventist (Md.) University, the RedStorm's opponent on Friday afternoon, proved to be the polar opposite of what their five-game statistics suggested and the Shock dealt Rio a 105-97 loss in the opening round of the Baisi Classic at West Virginia University-Tech's Baisi Athletic Center.
    Rio Grande suffered its first loss of the season in its sixth outing.
    Washington Adventist led from nearly start to finish in improving to 3-3.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's basketball team hits the road for the first time in nearly three weeks and just the second time this season, traveling to Montgomery, W.Va. to participate in the Baisi Classic at West Virginia University-Tech.
    The RedStorm will face Washington Adventist (MD) University on Friday at 2 p.m. before facing Barber-Scotia (N.C.) College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
    Rio Grande brings a 5-0 mark into the weekend following an 89-80 win over Taylor University in last Saturday's Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament championship game.

    BEREA, Ky. - University of Rio Grande junior D.D. Joiner was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week by league officials on Monday.
    Rio Grande competed in the Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament November 14th & 15th. They defeated Ohio University-Lancaster 90-67 and Taylor University 89-80. In two games, Joiner averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. He was named the Tournament MVP.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - After opening the season with four lopsided victories, the University of Rio Grande men's basketball team finally found itself tested.
    The RedStorm passed with flying colors.
    Head coach Ken French's team shot a blistering 81 percent from the field in the second half, rallying from a one-point halftime deficit to defeat Taylor University, 89-80, in the championship game of the Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament, Saturday night, at the Newt Oliver Arena.
    Rio Grande connected on its first 11 shots from the floor in the second half and finished 17-for-21 after the break, improving to 5-0 on the season.
    Taylor, which defeated Rio in the championship game of its own tournament last season, slipped to 3-2 with the loss.

Joiner scored a season-high 26 points to lead four University of Rio Grande players in double figures and pace the RedStorm in a 90-67 triumph over Ohio University-Lancaster in the opening round of the 32nd Annual Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament, Friday night, at the Newt Oliver Arena.
    The RedStorm, who improved to 4-0 with the win, will face Taylor University in Saturday's title game at 5 p.m. The Trojans outlasted Cincinnati-Clermont, 87-83 in overtime, in Friday's other semifinal contest.
