    ATHENS, Ohio – University of Rio Grande head volleyball coach Billina Donaldson has announced the signing of Alexander High School's Jonnalyn Shimko for the 2013 season.
    Shimko, a 5-foot-6 setter, helped head coach Nick Wendt's Spartans to a 17-9 finish in the fall after a season-ending loss to Zane Trace in the Division III district finals.

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Three members of the University of Rio Grande's volleyball team were among the 408 students named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes last Friday.
    Representing the RedStorm were senior middle blocker Erin Sherman (South Webster, OH), junior setter Kelsey Martin (Jackson, OH) and junior defensive specialist/libero Nicole Ogg (Albany, OH).

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Second-seeded Lindsey Wilson College staved off a first game comeback by the University of Rio Grande and then rolled in the final two games, posting a 3-0 (28-26, 25-13, 25-16) win over the No. 3 seed RedStorm, Saturday morning, in the semifinal round of the Mid-South Conference volleyball tournament at the MidAmerica Sports Center.
    The Blue Raiders, who received votes in the latest NAIA coaches poll, improved to 27-12 with the win and advanced to the tournament title game against the winner of the second semifinal contest between top-seeded Georgetown College and No. 4 seed Campbellsville University.
    Rio Grande finished its season at 21-10.

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Rio Grande volleyball team overcame a slow start and rallied to post a 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-11) win over the University of the Cumberlands, Friday morning, in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at the MidAmerica Sports Center.
    The third-seeded RedStorm, who improved to 21-9 with the victory, advance to Saturday morning's semifinal round where they'll face No. 2 seed Lindsey Wilson in a 10 a.m. first serve. The winner of that match moves on to the tourney title game on Saturday at 5 p.m.

    The announcement came on Thursday night at the league's annual awards banquet.

    Sixty-two student-athletes representing each of the 11 MSC schools received the honor.
