    OXFORD, Ohio - Katie Roberts posted a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw, providing the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team with its top showing at the All-Ohio Championship, which concluded its two-day run on Saturday at Miami University's Ryder Track.
    Roberts, a sophomore from Vinton, Ohio, had a toss of 101-11 to earn her spot in the final standings.
    Roberts was one of seven individuals and two relay units representing the RedStorm who recorded a top 10 finish in their respective events.

    CONWAY, S.C. - Freshman Rachel Ball posted a second place finish in the one mile run to highlight the performance of the University of Rio Grande women's track & field squad in the Shamrock Invitational, which concluded Saturday at Coastal Carolina University's Doug Shaw Stadium.
    Ball, a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, finished the course in a time of 5:42.36 - nearly four seconds behind event winner Vivian Ruiz of Concord University.
    The meet - which attracted more than 60 schools representing all three divisions of the NCAA and the NAIA - was not a scored event, meaning team champions were not awarded.
    Eight other athletes representing the RedStorm managed top 10 finishes in their respective events. Three of the eight set new school records in the process.

    CONWAY, S.C. - Kylie Caudill earned a tie for seventh place in the high jump and provided the University of Rio Grande women's track & field squad its best finish of the weekend at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational, which wrapped up its two-day run on Saturday at Doug Shaw Stadium.
    Caudill, a freshman from Pickerington, Ohio, cleared 4-09.00 in the finals and was one of three athletes to tie for seventh spot.
    Five others among those representing the RedStorm managed top 10 finishes in their respective events.

    WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Four athletes had a pair of top 10 finishes to fuel the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team in its season opener at Saturday's Otterbein Invitational hosted by Otterbein University.
    The quartet helped the RedStorm total 33.75 points as a team to take eighth place among the 15 competing schools.
    Tiffin University grabbed the team title with 196.5 points, while host Otterbein (137) and Ohio Dominican University (62) completed the top three.
    John Carroll University (49) and Wittenberg University (45) rounded out the top five.

    MERCERVILLE, Ohio - University of Rio Grande director of cross country/track & field Steve Gruenberg has announced the signing of South Gallia High School senior Alexis Johnson for the 2015-2016 school year.
    Johnson, a 5-foot-6 thrower, is the school record-holder in both the shot put and discus. She was also a member of the Tri-Valley Conference All-Academic Team.
    "I'm excited to grow as an athlete and a student at the University of Rio Grande. I consider it a great honor," Johnson said. "I've hoped to become a collegiate athlete since my freshman year."

    GALLIPOLIS, Ohio - University of Rio Grande director of track & field/cross country Steve Gruenberg recently announced the addition of Ohio Christian University transfer Breanna West to the program's roster for the 2014-15 school year.
    West, a 5-foot-4 sprinter/jumper, is a graduate of Gallia Academy High School, where she was a four-year All-Southeast District honoree for head coach Todd May's Blue Devils.
    West, who participated in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as the high jump and long jump, also was a regional meet qualifer, an All-Southeast Ohio Athletic League selection and a four-time Academic All-SEOAL honoree. Her top time in the 100 of 14.32 came during her junior year at GAHS, while her personal-best of 29.08 in the 200 came during her freshman year.
