VANCOUVER, Wash. - Two runners representing the University of Rio Grande wrapped up their respective collegiate cross country careers on Saturday in the 2011 NAIA National Championship at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
Matt Spencer (Pickerington, OH) finished 72nd among 312 runners in the men's division, completing the 8K course in a time of 25:30, while Cassie Mattia (West Chester, OH) was 112th among 323 participants in the women's division with a time of 19:33 on the 5K course.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - A trio of runners representing the University of Rio Grande earned a spot in the NAIA National Championship following their performances in the Mid-South Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday morning, at Shawnee State University.
Senior Cassie Mattia (West Chester, OH) finished fourth among individuals in the women's division with a time of 18:55, while junior Nick Wilson (Barlow, OH) and senior Matt Spencer (Pickerington, OH) finished eight and ninth, respectively, in the men's division with times of 26:24 and 26:25.
The trio, who also earned all-conference honors based on their showings, advance to the national event, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19, in Port Vancouver, Wash.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Matt Spencer and Cassie Mattia gave the University of Rio Grande its top finishes and both were among four URG runners who established career personal-best marks during Saturday's Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College.
Spencer, a senior from Pickerington, Ohio, completed the 8 K course in 25:33 to finish 20th out of 327 runners on the men's side, while Mattia - a senior from West Chester, OH - was 22nd among 337 competitors in the women's division with a time of 18:51.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande's Nick Wilson and Lindsey Wilson College's Sharon Ronoh are the Mid-South Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly award is the first this season for Wilson while Ronoh earns her fifth weekly conference honor of the fall.

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Three cross country runners representing the University of Rio Grande posted top 15 finishes in Friday's Wilmington College Fall Classic.
Senior Cassie Mattia (West Chester, OH) finished eighth in the women's division, while junior Nick Wilson (Barlow, OH) and senior Matt Spencer (Pickerington, OH) finished 11th and 13th, respectively, in the men's division. Mattia finished the 5K course in 18:56, while Wilson navigated the 8K course in 25:30 and Spencer crossed the finish line in 25:34.
