RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's soccer program has announced the signing of Circleville High School's Connor Zingarelli for the 2012 season.
Zingarelli, a 5-foot-11, 150-pound defender, was a big part of a Circleville squad which 11-3-3 finish last fall. Head coach Steve Wastier's Tigers advanced to the semifinal round of the Division II Southeast District tournament before suffering a season-ending 3-1 loss to Warren.

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - University of Rio Grande head baseball coach Brad Warnimont has announced the signing of Adena High School standout Kirk Yates for the 2013 season.
Yates has played a major role in a successful 2012 season for the Warriors, which continues Friday night with a Division III district semifinal matchup with Minford.

DETROIT, Mich. - University of Rio Grande men's basketball head coach Ken French has announced the signing of Schoolcraft College standout Karl Moore for the 2012-13 season.
Moore, a 6-foot-8, 180-pound forward, averaged 22.7 points and 12.1 rebounds last season at Schoolcraft, a community-based college located in Livonia, Mich. He also connected on 56.6 percent of his field goal attempts for the Ocelots, who finished 19-12.

ASHLAND, Ky. - University of Rio Grande women's basketball head coach David Smalley has announced the signing of Ashland Paul Blazer High standout Julia Heaberlin for the 2012-13 season.
Heaberlin, a 5-foot-11 forward, averaged 10 points and nine rebounds per game for head coach Bill Bradley's Tomkittens, who finished 29-7 following a 63-59 loss to Magoffin County in the first round of the Kentucky High School Sweet Sixteen.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Six University of Rio Grande softball players have been honored by the Mid-South Conference for their performance on the field and in the classroom.
    Senior pitcher Anna Smith (Hamilton, OH) and junior outfielder Kaylee Walk (Unionville Center, OH) were both named to the All-MSC First Team, while junior second baseman Katie Fuller (Hamilton, OH), senior pitcher Allison Mills (West Chester, OH) and junior third baseman Jaymie Rector (Heath, OH) were among those named to the All-MSC Second Team.
    Walk, Fuller and Rector were also among four RedStorm standouts named to the Academic All-MSC Team, joining junior first baseman Kaitie Stewart (Pleasant Hill, OH).

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Seven University of Rio Grande baseball players have been honored by the Mid-South Conference for their performance on the field and in the classroom.
    Junior outfielder Shane Spies (Polk, OH) was named to the All-MSC First Team, while senior pitcher Ryan Chapman (Racine, OH) earned Second Team All-MSC kudos.
    Chapman was also among four Rio players named to the Academic All-MSC Team, joining fellow senior Jacob Cooke (South Charleston, OH), junior Phillipe Dumont (Columbus, OH) and sophomore Dylan Perego (Waterdown, Ontario, Canada).
    The RedStorm's list of honorees also included freshmen Kyle Findley (Cincinnati, OH) and Luke Taylor (Pedro, OH), both of whom were named to the league's Gold Glove team.

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - University of Rio Grande head volleyball coach Billina Donaldson has announced the signing of Cuyahoga Falls High School standout Kelsey Beatty for the 2012 season.
Beatty, a four-year letter winner and a two-time first team All-Northeast Ohio Conference selection for the Black Tigers, who finished the 2011 campaign at 16-8 following a loss to Wadsworth in the Division I district semifinals.

    CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande erased a three-run deficit with four fifth-inning runs, but watched as UVA-Wise mounted a rally of its own in the sixth to regain the lead and the Cavaliers held on for a 7-6 win in a loser's bracket elimination game of the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament, Friday afternoon, at Tiger Field.
    Wise improved to 24-25 and remained alive in the double-elimination tournament, with a showdown with top-seeded Lindsey Wilson in another elimination contest still to come later tonight. The Blue Raiders remained in the title hunt by eliminating Campbellsville in Friday's opening game.
    Rio Grande finished its season at 30-27 with the loss.

    DANVILLE, Ky. - Shawnee State's Ali Thompson limited the University of Rio Grande to just one hit and the Bears pushed across an unearned run in the first inning to hand the RedStorm a 1-0 loss in a loser's bracket elimination game at the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament, Friday morning, at Millineum Park's Panasonic Field.
    The third-seeded Bears improved to 29-10 with the victory and remained alive in the double-elimination tourney, advancing to face No. 4 seed Campbellsville later in the day in another elimination contest.
    Rio Grande, the tourney's fifth seed, finished 24-20 with the loss.

   DANVILLE, Ky. - Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson scored in each of its first three trips to the plate and cruised to a 6-1 win over the University of Rio Grande in a winner's bracket semifinal game of the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament, Thursday evening, at Millineum Park's Colonels Field.
   The win sends the Blue Raiders (44-10) into Friday's winner bracket final against St. Catherine, which defeated UVA-Wise in the other winner's bracket semifinal contest.
   Rio, the tourney's No. 5 seed, will meet rival Shawnee State in a loser's bracket elimination game on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

COLUMBIA, Ky. - For the second straight day, Rio Grande senior Brian Suerdick showed the world that he's in no hurry for his collegiate career to come to an end.
One day after putting down a game-winning squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning against Pikeville, Suerdick hit a walkoff, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the eighth-seeded RedStorm to a dramatic 6-3 win over top-seeded Lindsey Wilson in the opening game of the double-elimination portion of the 2012 Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament at Egnew Park.
