[Volleyball] Volleyball inks Eastern High's Brown

BEAVER, Ohio - University of Rio Grande volleyball head coach Billina Donaldson has announced the signing of Eastern High School's Chandler Brown for the 2013 season.
Brown, a 5-foot-7 outside hitter, was a major contributor for head coach Janet Day's Eagles, who finished the 2012 campaign at 27-1 after losing to to eventual state runner-up Kidron Central Christian in the Ohio Division IV state semifinals.
Brown ranked second on the team in digs with 213 and led the squad with 85 service aces.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio - University of Rio Grande women's basketball head coach David Smalley has announced the signing of Lake Ridge Academy's Sharday Baines for the 2013-14 season.
Baines, a 5-foot-5 point guard, was a big part of first-year head coach Lisa Medvetz's Royals, who finished 22-4 after falling to eventual state runner-up Berlin Hiland in the semifinal round of the Division IV, Region 13 Tournament.
Baines averaged 11.2 points, 5.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game en route to earning a special honorable mention selection to the All-Ohio team.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - University of Rio Grande head baseball coach Brad Warnimont has announced the signing of Zane Trace High School's Trent Downs for the 2014 season.
Downs, a 6-foot-0, 185-pound third baseman/pitcher, led the Pioneers to a 20-10 finish this season. Head coach Ron Allen's squad, which suffered a season-ending extra inning loss to Oak Hill in the Division III district championship game, reached the 20-win plateau for the eighth time in the past 13 seasons.
The district final meeting with Oak Hill also marked the eighth time since 2000 that Zane Trace reached the title game.

BEAVER, Ohio - University of Rio Grande volleyball head coach Billina Donaldson has announced the signing of Eastern High School's Miranda Clark for the 2013 season.
Clark, 6-foot-0 right side hitter, helped head coach Janet Day's Eagles to a 27-1 season and a trip to the Ohio Division IV state semifinals, where they fell to eventual state runner-up Kidron Central Christian.
Clark finished with a team-high 275 kills and also served up 58 aces en route to earning All-Southern Ohio Conference and All-Southeast District first team selections.

JACKSON, Ohio - University of Rio Grande volleyball head coach Billina Donaldson has announced the addition of Jackson High School's Sarah Martin to the RedStorm's 2013 roster.
Martin, a 5-foot-11 setter/right side hitter, was a key performer the Ironladies, who are coached by her father, Jay.
Martin tallied 212 kills, 331 assists (4.1 apg) and 221 digs to go along with a .472 hitting percentage. She also had 52 solo blocks, 53 block assists and 37 aces for the Ironladies, who finished 11-13 after a loss to Waverly in Division II district tournament play.

OAK HILL, Ohio - University of Rio Grande head baseball coach Brad Warnimont has announced the signing of Oak Hill High School standout Drew Haislop for the 2014 season.
Haislop is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound shorstop/second baseman for head coach Jason Wright's Oaks, who will take a 20-8 record into regional tournament play next week - the school's first regional tournament appearance since 1956.
Haislop batted .372 during the regular season with three home runs and 24 runs batted in. He also recorded 10 doubles and scored 24 runs.

McARTHUR, Ohio - University of Rio Grande head volleyball coach Billina Donaldson has announced the signing of Vinton County High School's Caitlyn Owings for the 2013 season.
Owings, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, was named the District 13 Division II Player of the Year after leading first-year head coach Brittany Carper's Vikings in both kills and blocks for the third straight season. She also led the team in blocks and ranked second in kills as a freshman.
Vinton County's 2012 campaign ended with a loss to Marietta in sectional tournament play.
Owings was also named to the All-Tri-Valley Conference First Team for the second consecutive season, as well as being named an All-Southeast District selection and her team's Most Valuable Player for each of the past two seasons.

LOUISA, Ky. – University of Rio Grande head baseball coach Brad Warnimont has announced the signing of Lawrence County High School standout Brandon Stevens for the 2014 season.
Stevens is a 5-foot-9, 175-pound left-handed pitcher/first baseman for head coach Travis Feltner's Bulldogs, who finished regular season play with a 21-11 record as they prepared to open 57th District Tournament play on Tuesday night.
Stevens has a 7-2 record and a 1.30 earned run average this season. In 13 appearances, seven of which have been starts, he's authored three complete games and a pair of shutouts.

LOUISA, Ky. – University of Rio Grande head baseball coach Brad Warnimont has announced the signing of Lawrence County High School standout Clark Rice for the 2014 season.
Rice is a 6-foot-0, 195-pound catcher for head coach Travis Feltner's Bulldogs, who took a 21-11 record into 57th District Tournament play on Tuesday night.
Rice is batting .354 with 18 runs batted in. He has collected 34 hits on the season, including nine doubles, while also sporting a .448 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage.

XENIA, Ohio - University of Rio Grande women's soccer head coach Callum Morris has announced the signing of Xenia High School's Laurel Amstutz for the 2013 season.
Amstutz, a 5-foot-2 forward, was a four-year letter winner, a four-year starter and a captain for head coach Jim Lamb's Buccaneers, who finished the 2012 campaign with a 13-3-3 record after a loss to Centerville in Division I district semifinal play.

WINFIELD, W.Va. - University of Rio Grande women's basketball head coach David Smalley has announced the signing of Winfield High School's Mara Rhoades for the 2013-14 school year.
Rhoades, a 5-foot-5 guard/small forward, averaged 13.7 points, 7.5 assists and four rebounds per game as a senior for head coach Tim Toler's Lady Generals, who finished 12-13 following a loss to Spring Valley in the Class AAA Region IV co-finals.

BIDWELL, Ohio – University of Rio Grande track & field head coach Bob Willey has announced the signing of River Valley High School's Justin Mabe for the 2013-14 school year.
Mabe, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound sprinter/jumper for coach Jacob Attar's Raiders, has competed in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, as well as the high jump this season. As a junior, his event list also included the 400-meter dash, along with the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays and the 4x55 shuttle hurdles.

GROVE CITY, Ohio – University of Rio Grande cross country/track & field head coach Bob Willey has announced the signing of Central Crossing High School's Jessica Reckner for the 2013-14 school year.
Reckner, a 5-foot-6 distance runner, is a 2012 graduate of CCHS where she ran both cross country and track for head coach Doug Boggs' Comets. Her track & field events included the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the 1600-meter run, 3200-meter run, the 4x800 relay and the 4x1600 relay.

McCONNELSVILLE, Ohio – University of Rio Grande track & field head coach Bob Willey has announced the signing of Morgan High School duo Derek Dingey and Clinton Campbell for the 2013-14 school year.
Dingey, a 6-foot-0, 250-pound thrower, and Campbell, a 5-foot-10, 150-pound sprinter/hurdler, are both key members of head coach John Robbins squad.
Dingey qualified for the Ohio state championship meet last year in discus and was a regional qualifier in the shot put, while Campbell reached the state meet in the 300 hurdles.

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – University of Rio Grande men's basketball head coach Ken French has announced the signing of Gabe Davila for the 2013-14 season.
A 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard, Davila will be making a return to the court after a two-year hiatus.
Davila, who played high school basketball at Beachwood High School in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, last played at Delaware Technical Community College during the 2010-11 season and helped the Hawks reach the NJCAA Division II national tournament.
By signing with Rio Grande, Davila will also be reunited with former Delaware Tech teammate Josh Reagan.
