    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Rio Grande softball team finished 25th in the final NAIA coaches' poll of the 2016 season, released Wednesday night by the national office.
    The RedStorm, who dropped three positions from the final regular season coaches' poll, collected 108 points in the balloting by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.
    Head coach Chris Hammond's squad finished 41-9 overall - setting a single-season school record for victories - after going 1-2 in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament.
    Rio Grande won both the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships to reach the national tourney for a second straight year.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After winning a conference tournament championship and a pair of games in the opening round of the NAIA national tournament, the University of Rio Grande baseball team found its way onto the list of schools which received votes in the final NAIA coaches' poll of the 2016 season.
    The RedStorm collected three points in the balloting by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions released Wednesday night by the national office.
    The RedStorm, who were ranked No. 25 in the preseason coaches' poll before falling off the list once the regular season began, finished fourth in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's regular season standings before capturing the KIAC tournament title and earning a second straight trip to the NAIA national tourney.
    Head coach Brad Warnimont's team went 2-2 in the national event, finishing the season at 39-25.

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four University of Rio Grande softball players were among those who recently received 2016 NAIA All-Region accolades from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
    Sophomore catcher Tayler Arndt, senior first baseman Ariel Roder, sophomore third baseman Gabby Gregg and junior pitcher Jenna Jones all were named to the Great Lakes Region second team after leading the RedStorm to a school-record 41 wins, the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's regular season and tournament championships and the program's second straight appearance in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
    The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's six regions with first and second-team recognition. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams.
