    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the first time in program history, the University of Rio Grande softball team finds itself ranked among the top 25 teams in the country.
    The RedStorm are ranked 24th in the latest NAIA coaches' poll released Tuesday evening by the national office.
    Head coach Chris Hammond's team, which narrowly missed making the list last week, tallied 121 points in the balloting by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.
    Rio Grande, which had a scheduled Tuesday home date against the University of Pikeville cancelled by the Bears, are 32-7 overall and 15-1 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The RedStorm have won 10 straight outings and 14 of their last 15 heading into Friday's KIAC twinbill against West Virginia University-Tech.

    FLORENCE, Ky. - University of Rio Grande shortstop Cheyenne Hamaker hit .471 and slugged .706 in six games last week to earn Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week accolades for April 11-17.
    Hamaker, a junior from Hilliard, Ohio, was 8-for-17 at the plate and had a hit in five of the six games. She posted four doubles, seven runs batted in and was 3-for-4 in stolen bases.

    FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande's Matt Hodge placed in two track events at the Ball State Challenge to earn Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for April 11-17.
    A sophomore from Lucasville, Ohio, Hodge was second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.21 seconds and seventh in the 100-meter dash at 11.28 seconds.
