Rio's Viscosi wins third MSC Player of Week honor
Louisville, Ky. --- For the third time this season, University of Rio Grande goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi has been selected as the Mid-South Conference's Defensive Player of the Week. Viscosi earned the honor for the games played during the week ending October 9.
The Ottawa, Ontario native collected six saves in a key 2-0 MSC victory over the University of the Cumberlands last Saturday night at Evan Davis Field. Viscosi claims the honor for the second consecutive week. He also earned MSC Defensive Player of the Week, August 30.
"Not to discredit Jonathan the other times, but I think this time he probably did deserve it," said Rio Grande head coach Scott Morrissey. "He came up with a couple of really good saves; he cut off some long balls that were put into the box that could have been dangerous."
"But also, not to take anything away from Jonathan, I felt like, defensively, the 10 (players) in front of him did a good job," Morrissey added. "It was a great win for us and obviously good recognition for Jonathan. It's also good recognition for, not only the back four, but the team, because it was a very good defensive effort."
"For Jonathan its good recognition for him, but a good team award as well, the way I see it," he said.
The victory keeps No. 2 ranked Rio Grande perfect on the season at 12-0 and 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference.
Viscosi leads the conference with a 0.53 goals against average and has posted eight shutouts this season.
Rio Grande will return to action on Thursday, October 14 at Cedarville. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
