Rio's Campbell earns MSC Player of the Week honor

Louisville, Ky. --- University of Rio Grande guard Doug Campbell is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The Salisbury, N.C. junior guard earns his first weekly conference award of the season and the first for a RedStorm player.

Campbell scored 22 points and grabbed four rebounds in the RedStorm's 91-84 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University.

Campbell connected on six of his 10 shots, including making 5-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc. He also made all five of his free throws.

"Congratulations to Doug. This is a great accomplishment for him as an individual and for our program," Rio Grande head coach Ken French said. "He has the honor of being the first Rio player to be recognized by the Mid-South. I'm proud of him and his team first attitude. Hopefully this will give him confidence heading into league play."

On the season, Campbell is averaging 13 points and 3.1 rebounds.
