Scott Morrissey

Head Coach - 21st Season
Morrissey assumed the head coaching position at Rio Grande in September of 1989.  He has taken what was a fledgling program and transformed into a national powerhouse.
 
Morrissey has amassed 294 wins during his tenure for Rio Grande.  He has guided Rio Grande to eight consecutive NAIA National Tournaments, three semi-final appearances (2001, 2003, 2008), two national title game appearances (2003, 2008) and one NAIA National Championship (2003). 
 
Rio has won nine conference titles and seven NAIA region championships  during his tenure.
 
Morrissey won four American Mideast Conference Coach of Year awards (1998, 2001-03) and was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2001, and 2003.
 
Morrissey starred in both soccer and basketball at Tiffin University and is a member of their athletics Hall of Fame.  While at Tiffin, he was All-Mid-Ohio Conference in soccer in 1985-88, including winning the MOC Player of the Year award in 1988.  Morrissey was a two-time NAIA All-American (1987-88).   He was selected to the Senior Bowl's West Squad in 1989.
 
Morrissey graduated from Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati, OH.
 
Morrissey also serves as Assistant Director of Athletics and Director of Compliance. 
 
He and his wife, Kathy, reside in Gallipolis, OH with their two daughters, Allison and Samantha.
 

Tony Daniels
Assistant Coach - 18th Season
Daniels begins his 18th season as assistant coach for the Rio Grande coaching staff.  He is no stranger to Rio Grande, having graduated from Rio in 1992.  While at Rio Grande, Daniels was a fixture on the men's soccer team.
 
He has been an integral part in assisting Coach Morrissey in transforming the Rio program into a national powerhouse.  Daniels is instrumental in all facets of the program including recruiting and game planning. 
 
Daniels also serves as Director of Lyne Center and the Rio Grande FItness Center.
 
Daniels and his wife, Teresa live in Rio Grande with their son, Keagen and daughter, Kamryn.
 

Jamie Davies
Assistant Coach - 2nd Season
Davies is in his second season as a member of the Rio Grande coaching staff.  He is also the head coach of the junior varsity team.
 
Davies is currently enrolled in the Master's program at Rio Grande.
 

Paul Nicholson
Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Nicholson is in his first season as an assistant for Rio Grande after an outstanding four-year playing careerfor Rio Grande. 
 
He was was selected first team All-American in 2008. Nicholson was a key figure on both offense and defense for the RedStorm.  He was a first team All-American Mideast Conference performer as well. 
 
Nicholson was also tabbed the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the NAIA Tournament last year.  He was honorable mention All-AMC in 2007 and was on the second team in 2006. 
 

For his career, Nicholson scored 17 goals and registered seven assists (41 points) in 83 career games. His sophomore season he established himself as one of the top defensive players in the country and his last two seasons, he shifted to the mid-field and became more of an offensive threat, scoring six goals and six assists (18 points) as a junior. 

He was the only NAIA player to make the Major League Soccer (MLS) Combine List for 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
 
Nicholson, a native of Whitehaven, England, is the second player in Rio Grande history to make the illustrious list.
 

Nate Walzer
Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Walzer is in his first season as an assistant for the Rio Grande program.  He played goalkeeper for Rio the last two seasons.  Walzer fought through an early season injury last year to help lead the RedStorm to a National Title game appearance. 
 
Walzer, a native of Woodbury, CT, had a 12-3 record in goal last season and allowed only 14 goals in 1,323 minutes in the net.
 
Walzer's primary repsonsibility lies with working with the goalkeepers.
