2009-10 Men's Basketball Coaches
Ken French
Head Coach - 4th Season
         Ken French begins his fourth  season at the helm of Rio Grande men's basketball program. Prior to becoming the head coach, French spent six seasons as the lead assistant coach for the Rio Grande   program.
 
          French is a native of Huntington, West Virginia and is a 1993 graduate of West Virginia State. He coached four years at Huntington St. Joseph High School  and two years at Ceredo-Kenova High School before beginning his college coaching tenure as an assistant at Tusculum College (TN)  for three seasons. French joined the Rio program in 1999 and helped guide the men's program  to a pair of NAIA Divisin II National Tourament appearances, including a FInal Four berth in 2001.
 
          Coach French also serves as the school's athletic recruiting coordinator and is heading up the NAIA Champions of Character initiative for  the entire athletic program for the tenth year. In October of 2005 Coach French was certified by the NAIA as a "Champions of Character " Instructor. Ken and his wife Tonya  reside in Rio Grande with their son Tre and daughter Ali.
 

Kyle Adams

Assistant Coach - 1st Season

Adams, a veteran coach, brings over 10 years experience to the sidelines. Adams is a native of Philadelphia, PA and a graduate of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Secondary Education/Social Science. Currently, he is enrolled in Masters of Education with a concentration in athletic coaching and leadership at the University of Rio Grande. 

 

He is the oldest son of Benjamin and Cheryl Adams and has two brothers, Benjamin and Nathaniel.

 

Adams is also the founder of the Team Together Basketball Academy, which assists student-athletes in improving their skill set and mental approach to society, athletics and academics. In addition to this, Adams is co-founder of LOOK, LISTEN, SHARE, CHANGE, which encourages and inspires young people to become socially conscience and assertive contributors of society.

 

He is a member of the Cheyney University Alumni Association's National Chapter as well as a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). 
 
Adams played point guard for George Werthmuller at Wallenpaupack Area High School in Hawley, PA.  Following his playing career, Adams served as an assistant coach for Lincoln University (PA), Hope Charter High School in Philadelphia, PA, Germantown Friends High School in Philadelphia, Eastern University (PA), Plattsburgh State University (NY), Community College of Philadelphia and Cheyney State (PA).
 
Adams was also head coach at Mapleton High School in Malvern, PA. 
 

Ryan Arrowood

Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Arrowood joins the Rio Grande coaching staff this season after spending the last two seasons as varsity boys head basketball coach at Hannan High School.
 
Arrowood, a native of Glenwood, WV,  graduated from Hannan High School and then attended the University of Rio Grande.  While at Rio Grande, Arrowood played three seasons on the junior varsity squad and spent 1 1/2 years as a member of the varsity team.  He graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education. 
 
In addition to assisting Coach French, Arrowood will serve as the head coach of the RedStorm junior varsity program. 
 
Presently, Arrowood is working toward his Masters' degree at Rio Grande in Educational Leadership (Administration).

Heath McKinniss

Assistant Coach - 2nd Season
     Heath McKinniss is in his second season as an assistant coach for Rio Grande men's program. McKinniss has taught at Jackson Middle School since 2004. During  that time he served as assistant varsity boys coach for Jackson High School in 2004-2005  and was varsity girls head coach at Jackson from 2005-2007. Prior to his stint at Jackson, McKinniss was assistant varsity boys coach at Gallia Academy from 2000-2004.
      Heath graduated from Rio Grande in 2001 with a degree in Elementary Education. He, along with his wife, Melissa, who graduated from Rio Grande in 2002 reside in Jackson with their son Garrett. Melissa teaches third grade in Wellston. He replaces longtime assistant Thad Haines.
 
 

Eric Doan
Student Assistant - 2nd Season

Eric Doan is in his second season with the Rio Grande men's program. Along with helping with the varsity  program, Eric serves as the assistant coach for Ryan Arrowood and the junior varsity program.
