Head Coach - 29th Season

Willey is in his second stint as Head Men's and Women's Cross Country & Track Coach, which began in 1986.

He earned a Bachelors of Science in Health & Physical Education from Rio Grande College in 1973 .  Willey went on to earn his Masters in Health Education from Union College in 1975.

Willey's first stint as Head Track & Cross Country Coach at Rio Grande College was from 1975-1979.

He left to become Head Men's Track and Cross Country Coach at Morehead State University and was there from 1979-1985 before returning to Rio Grande.

While at Rio Grande Willey has coached five Individual National Champions, 100 All-Americans and 44 Academic All-Americans .

Steve Gruenberg
Assistant Coach - 1st Season
     Gruenberg is in his first season as an assistant coach at Rio Grande and is responsible for working primarily with sprinters and jumpers.
     Gruenberg earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports Management from Cedarville University, where he spent three seasons as a sprinter/jumper. He was a member of the school's record-setting indoor 4x200 squad and still actively competes for the Darke County Track Club.
     Prior to joing the URG coaching staff, Gruenberg coached track and girls soccer at Greenville (OH) High School. He had seven regional qualifiers in three seasons with the track team and guided the winningest season in school history during his two years as soccer coach.
     He is also the founder/director of the Darke County Track Club and has had five athletes qualify for the Junior Olympic Nationals in Steeple Chase, 400m, Pentathlon, Heptathlon and Decathlon.
     Gruenberg is also a USATF Level 1 coach, a USATF track official (officiated at the 2011 NCAA DIII indoor nationals), a USSF "F" License coach, and a USSF and OHSAA soccer official since 2007,
     He is involved with the SEARCH ministry on the Rio Grande campus and is currently working toward his MBA.
     Gruenberg and his wife, Stephanie, reside in Greenville, Ohio and enjoy traveling and officiating meets together. 
 

Burt Wood
Assistant Coach - 5th Season
Wood is in his third season as an assistant with the Rio program.  His responsibility is with the throwers. 
 
Wood is a Gallia County native and a graduate of Gallia Academy High School.  He was at one time the Ohio state record holder in the shot put.  He attended the University of Tennessee.
 
In addition to coaching, he is a corrections officer in the Gallia County jail.
