RedStorm men win Fall Classic; women 15th

Wilmington, Oh. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's cross country team was knocking on the door to the NAIA Top 25 door this past week. They may well burst through it this week with an impressive performance at the Wilmington Fall Classic on Friday afternoon, winning the event. The RedStorm women finished 15th out of a 25-team field.

Sophomore Bryce Wilson (Jackson, OH) won his second race of the season as he out-distanced the field with a time of 25:19. Fellow sophomore Nick Wilson (Fleming, OH), who has nipped at Bryce's heels all season, was second overall with a time of 25:38. Junior Matthew Spencer (Pickerington, OH) gave the RedStorm three men in the top five as he crossed the finish line in fourth place, covering the 5-mile course in 25:42.

The rest of the RedStorm scoring went as follows: freshman Nathan Mogle (New Madison, OH), 36th (27:02); freshman Joe Taranto (Pickerington, OH), 50th (27:23); freshman Chris Aldea (Grove
City, OH), 62nd (27:51) and sophomore Zane Miller (Grove City, OH), 65th (27:54).

Rio's depth was tested as sophomore Chad McCarty (Tipp City, OH) was out with an injury, but the RedStorm responded with an outstanding team performance.

There were 265 runners and 26 teams competing in the men's race.

Rio Grande will have next week off before returning to competition at the Red & White Invitational at Rio Grande on Friday, October 30.
