Rio Grande --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm baseball program has signed Tyler Donaldson of Wayne High School to a letter of intent to play baseball beginning in the 2011-12 season.

Donaldson, a 6'0", 192-pound outfielder, will join former Wayne High School Warrior teammates Ryan Suerdick, and Kyle Vivier. Tyler will make up the trio of Warriors.

"I am glad to be signing to play baseball, it's been a life time goal that I've always aimed to accomplish." said Donaldson. "It feels great that I've finally accomplished it."

"I knew that the school was a good fit for me and my family, and also it had my intended major," Donaldson added.

That intended major of Donaldson is social work

Rio Grande head coach Brad Warnimont is happy to add Tyler to complete his trio of players from Wayne High School. "Tyler is a quality young man that has played for a quality program at Wayne High School and Troy Legion for legendary coach Frosty Brown." "The level of competition in the GWOC (Greater Western Ohio Conference) along with the very high level of play that Troy Legion is exposed to, should help prepare Tyler for the Mid-South".

Donaldson considers his fielding and speed, as his best assets. "I feel my best assets as a player are my fielding and speed, I feel I need to work on my arm as an outfielder". "Having a strong arm is key" he added.

"My ultimate goal as a player for the next four years is to be the best team player I can for Rio Grande, also to contribute as much to the team so we can get to the NAIA World Series" he continued.

Tyler is the son of Mark and Tyna Donaldson of Huber Heights, Ohio and played for Jason Stringfield at Wayne High School.

Tyler made All-GWOC honorable mention.

The Rio Grande baseball team finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 30-24 and finished third with a 13-12 record in the Mid-South Conference East Division.
