Rio Grande --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's track and field squad had members make the Mid-South Conference All-Academic team in seniors Kyle Hively (Vinton, OH) and David Croom (Heath, OH) as well as junior Lucas Murphy (Grove City, OH).

All three earned a place on the all-academic team for the second consecutive year.

Hively was runner-up in the 5,000-meter race walk, but he qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Meet, to be held May 26-28 in Marian, Ind.  His time of 23:30.42 also hit the standard for the United States Track & Field Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore. in late June.

There were 15 student-athletes in all that achieved the academic honor on the men's side.
"I know that we had 12 total (athletes) that we submitted to the conference office and those people are doing what they are supposed to do first and that's the classroom," said Rio Grande head coach Bob Willey. "We always push that the hardest, that's obviously why they're here."

"They come to study tables, they work hard and to have that many receive that award, to me that's what it's really all about," Willey added.

To be eligible for academic all-conference, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in standing and maintain a minimum 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
