RedStorm roll to victory at St. Catharine

St. Catharine, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team, ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll rolled to a 6-0 victory on the road at St. Catharine on Tuesday afternoon.

Rio Grande (7-2, 3-1 MSC) attacked the SCC goal relentlessly and once it scored, the goals came frequently in cruising to a fourth straight victory. It was also the fourth consecutive shutout for the RedStorm.

Freshman forward Scott Bibby (Doncaster, England) began the scoring with an assist going to junior defender Steve O'Hara (Liverpool, England). The goal by Bibby was the first of two on the day and he also notched two assists.

St. Catharine (6-4, 0-2 MSC) fought hard, and had a couple chances in the first half. The Patriots were able to keep Rio off the scoreboard for most of the first half, but a ball crossed in to the box, skipped off the wet surface and was deflected in by an SCC defender to give Rio the first goal, and the halftime lead at 1-0.

 

Eight minutes into the second half the RedStorm struck again to double the lead to 2-0.  Rio scored four more times in the second half to win the game 6-0. 

Freshman forward Richard Isberner (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied the second goal with Bibby assisting. Bibby would score his second marker of the contest later in the second half with an assist going to sophomore mid-fielder Sam Fairhurst (Wigan, England). Fairhurst wouls follow the assist with a goal of his own which made the score 5-0. Bibby posted his second assist on the play.

O'Hara closed out the scoring after receiving an assist from freshman mid-fielder/forward Rafael Maccauro (Sao Paulo, Brazil). 

Rio heads to Campbellsville on Wednesday to make-up an earlier postponement. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
