RedStorm blank Cumberlands; Morrissey wins 300th

Williamsburg, Ky. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team, ranked No.9 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 poll, won in shutout fashion for the third time this week, scoring a 2-0 victory over the University of Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the 300th in the career of Rio Grande head coach Scott Morrissey.

Rio Grande (6-2, 2-1 MSC) won for the third straight time since losing to Lindsey Wilson on September 19.

The RedStorm scored early in the game when freshman forward/mid-fielder Richard Isberner (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored in the 15th minute. It would be the only goal Rio
Grande would need. Junior mid-fielder Chris Anderson (Lancaster, England) was credited with an assist on the play.

Rio would take the 1-0 lead to halftime.

The RedStorm would put the game with an all-important insurance goal in the 62nd
minute when freshman forward Scott Bibby (Doncaster, England) found the back of the net. Junior defender Steven O'Hara (Liverpool, England) assisted on the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Lower (South Webster, OH) registered four saves in notching a shutout for Rio Grande.

Cumberlands, who was receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll, falls to 7-3 overall with the loss and now 1-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

Rio Grande will be on the road for an MSC match at St. Catherine on, Tuesday, October 6. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. following the women's game.

Rio will make up the Campbellsville game (which was rained out last Saturday) on Wednesday, October 7 at 1 p.m.

The RedStorm also announce that an additional game has been added to the schedule. Rio will host Daemen College next Saturday, October 10, at 7 p.m. as a prelude to Rockets Over Rio.
