Joe Taranto was the top Rio finisher at the Kent State Tune Up, finishing 13th in the 1,000 meters

Kent, Ohio --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's track and field team competed for the final time in the indoor season with the hopes of some of the athletes advancing on the NAIA Indoor National Championships, March 3-5. This was a non-scoring meet loaded with talented teams and talented athletes from all levels of the collegiate and amateur ranks. 


Sophomore Joe Taranto (Pickerington, OH) had the best finish of any Rio Grande performer, placing 13th in the 1,000-meter run. He covered the distance in 2:37.16. 


Junior distance man Nick Wilson (Barlow, OH) finished 23rd in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.72.


Other RedStorm results: freshman Myles Corcoran (Wilmington, OH), 35th in the 1-mile run (4:31.95); junior Lucas Murphy (Grove City, OH), 39th in the 800-meter run (2:01.75); sophomore Jay Butler (Cincinnati, OH), 40th in the 200-meter dash (23.57) and 54th in the 60-meter dash (7.43); junior Bryce Wilson (Jackson, OH), 48th in the 1-mile run (4:41); sophomore Travontae Wilson (Mansfield, OH), 57th in the 200-meter dash (24.75) and 68th in the 60 meters (7.63) and sophomore Kyle Goode (Racine, OH), 58th in the 1-mile run (4:58.72).


Rio Grande will find later this week who will represent the program at the NAIA National Meet, held in Geneva, OH in two weeks.
