Marietta, Ohio --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's indoor track and field squad was back in competition after a week hiatus as they traveled to Marietta on Friday for the Marietta Open. Rio Grande finished 10th (out of 12 teams), scoring 21 points.
The 4 x 800-meter relay team of freshman Myles Corcoran (Wilmington, OH), sophomore Joe Taranto (Pickerington, OH), junior Nick Wilson (Barlow, OH) and junior Lucas Murphy (Grove City, OH) finished 2nd with a time of 8:24.67. This was the best performance for the RedStorm on the evening.
Nick Wilson, competing in his first meet of the season, added a third place finish to his day in 3,000-meter run. Wilson's time was 9:19.10.
Rio also scored in the 4 x 200-meter relay, finishing 4th. The foursome of sophomore Travontae Wilson (Mansfield, OH), freshman Orlando Zapata (Medellin, Colombia), freshman Kevin Malone (Waverly, OH) and sophomore Jay Butler (Cincinnati, OH) registered a time of 1:40.39 in the event.
Junior distance man Bryce Wilson (Jackson, OH) was the only other RedStorm performer to score, finishing 7th in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:48.35.
West Virginia Wesleyan also won the men's meet, scoring 140 points.
Rio Grande will return to competition next Friday at the Cedarville Invitational. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
