RedStorm volleyball drops two at Campbellsville
Campbellsville, Ky. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm volleyball team dropped two key matches on the road at Campbellsville on Wednesday night. Rio lost both matches in straight sets, 12-25, 13-25 and 19-25 in the first match and 22-25, 20-25 and 16-25 in the nightcap.
Rio Grande (9-10, 6-4 MSC) was led by freshman middle hitter Erin Sherman (South Webster, OH) in the opening match. Sherman delivered six kills and three solo blocks in a losing effort.
Junior libero Jacquie Whittle (Chillicothe, OH) led the defense for Rio Grande with 12 digs while junior setter Ashley Bloom (Columbus, OH) registered nine assists.
In the second match, Rio played better, but could not come away with a win. Sherman reached double figures in kills in the final match with 10. Whittle continued her stellar defensive work with 19 digs and Bloom had nine assists. Freshman setter Micah Motes (Chillicothe, OH) was right behind Bloom with eight assists.
Junior middle blocker Rachel Walker (Ironton, OH) had two solo blocks.
Campbellsville (17-5, 6-1 MSC) takes over sole possession of second place with the two wins.
Rio Grande is back home on Saturday facing off against former American Mideast Conference foe, Carlow.
The match is set to get started at 11 a.m. inside the Newt Oliver Arena.
