RedStorm men hold off MVNU in battle of nationally ranked teams
It was a very physical game and even though Rio Grande is no longer in the American Mideast Conference, it was a typical AMC match.
Rio Grande sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Lower (South Webster, OH) collected the shutout as he registered two saves on the night. Alex Stout also played well in goal for MVNU (7-3). He notched four saves.
"Tonight, I thought we played well," said Rio Grande head coach Scott Morrissey. "I thought we had a couple of breakdowns early where they could have capitalized, but once we really got going I thought we settled down and played well."
"It was a big time game," Morrissey added. "They are very, very good."
Rio Grande will travel to the University of Cumberlands on Saturday for a huge Mid-South Conference match-up. Cumberlands currently resides just outside the Top 25 at No. 26. The Patriots are considered one of the contenders for Mid-South title along with Rio Grande and Lindsey Wilson. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
