Rio Grande women drop fourth straight
Rio Grande --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm women's soccer team suffered a very tough loss on Sunday afternoon at Point Pleasant High School. Rio lost 1-0 to Pikeville College when the Lady Bears notched the game-winning goal one minute into overtime.
Rio Grande (1-6-1, 0-2 MSC) had chances in the game but could not find the back of the net as Rio's scoreless streak has now reached five consecutive matches.Pikeville College (4-3-2, 1-2 AMC) also had numerous chances and also came up empty during regulation. In the extra session, the Lady Bears did a great job of breaking down the RedStorm defense and beat Rio freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Schultz (Plain City, OH) to give Pikeville College the win.
Rio out-shot Pikeville 11-10 with both teams getting five shots on goal. Schultz had four saves for the RedStorm.
The game was moved to Point Pleasant High School, due to Evan Davis Field not being playable from the recent onslaught of rain.
Rio Grande will look to end its skid on Wednesday when the RedStorm play host to Alderson-Broaddus at Evan Davis Field. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
