RedStorm men win The Rio; women runner-up
Rio Grande --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's and women's cross country teams produced strong efforts on Saturday morning at the rainy, soggy 39th Annual Rio Grande Invitational at the Stanley Evans Complex. The Rio men won the event with a near perfect score of 16 points. The women were runner-up, compiling 35 points.
The RedStorm nearly captured a perfect score in winning the event. Had it not been for Dustin Wood of Glenville State, Rio would have netted the top five places in the race and garnered the perfect score of 15.

Sophomore Bryce Wilson (Jackson, OH) edged out fellow classmate Nick Wilson (Fleming, OH) for the individual crown as both registered times of 26:54 for the 5-mile course.

Junior Matthew Spencer (Pickerington, OH) was third with a time of 27:04 while sophomore Chad McCarty (Tipp City, OH) bounced back from a subpar race a week ago to finish 4th (28:16).

Freshman Nathan Mogle (New Madison, OH) recorded a sixth place finish (28:33) while sophomore Zane Miller (Grove City, OH) and sophomore Chas Whittington (Patriot, OH) rounded out the top seven in 11th and 17th place respectively. Miller
ran 29:15 while Whittington timed out at 29:39.

Other RedStorm men's results: sophomore Andrew Edmunds (Huntington, WV), 19th, (29:41); sophomore Nic Cartee (South Webster, OH), 20th (30:08); freshman Chris Aldea (Grove City, OH), 21st (30:27); sophomore Lucas Murphy (Grove City, OH), 22nd (30:27); freshman Kyle Goode (Racine, OH), 25th (30:41); freshman Jordan Strickland (Oak Hill, OH), 27th (31:04); senior Kyle Hively (Vinton, OH), 30th (31:26); junior Steven Davis (McConnellsville, OH), 44th (34:30) and senior Jordan Cunningham (New Carlisle, OH), 49th (35:47).

"I thought we did a good job, despite the weather, which made it very tough, said Rio Grande head coach Bob Willey. "We didn't go out too hard, the key was to go out under control and our guys did very well, winning this meet is certainly a plus."

Rio out-distanced Alderson-Broaddus, who was second, garnering 46 points. Glenville State was third with 111 points.

Other team results: Fairmont State, 4th (113); Kentucky Christian, 5th (149); Ohio Valley University, 6th (163); Pikeville College, 7th (169) and WVU Tech, 8th (172).

There were 64 runners in the men's race.

Next up: Rio Grande will run in the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, October 2. The meet begins at 2:45 p.m.
