Rio Grande head coach Bob Willey was very pleased with how the day turned out and thought his team ran very well. "We're very excited about the number of participants today," he said. "We've got close to 1,300 (runners) between college, junior high and high school and the key to the invitational has always been to introduce people to our campus."
"It seems to be that we've done that. The weather is wonderful," Willey added. "We ran well and we're excited about that and hopefully we can bring it altogether by the end of the season."
"Cassie looked really good and we're very excited about her winning the race."
Rio Grande made a special announcement during the event - concerning a name change for the Rio Invitational. The Rio Grande Invitational will now be referred to as the Patty Forgey Memorial Invitational in honor of former Rio Grande athletics department secretary Patty Forgey, who passed away August 21. Forgey was instrumental in the success of the invitational for 35 of the 40 years.
Rio Grande will be back in competition next Friday at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville. The RedStorm women will run at 2:45 p.m.
