Pikeville, Ky., --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm volleyball team won for the second consecutive time on the road with a three-set victory over Pikeville College on Monday evening, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-22.

 

Rio Grande (3-4, 2-0 MSC) had a strong performance from sophomore middle hitter Erin Sherman (South Webster, OH). Sherman was a major factor at the net as she delivered 11 kills and four blocks.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Tresa Swatzel (Shade, OH) added seven kills and a pair of blocks and junior middle hitter Kati Moore (Lancaster, OH) chipped in with six kills and also recorded two blocks.

 

Other key performances for the RedStorm: sophomore outside hitter Whitney Smith (Albany, OH) served two aces while freshman setter Caity Willis (Athens, OH) and senior setter Ashley Bloom (Worthington, OH) teamed up for 15 and 14 assists respectively. 

 

Pikeville College fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the MSC.

 

Rio Grande will return to the friendly confines of the Newt Oliver Arena on Thursday night with a non-conference match versus Central State at 6 p.m.
