LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team is projected to finish second according to the Mid-South Conference Coaches' Preseason poll. Rio Grande garnered 27 voting points, including the final first-place vote. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Rio was the runner-up in the MSC a season ago.
"Our conference is getting stronger," said Rio Grande head coach Scott Morrissey. "Lindsey Wilson, University of the Cumberlands, Georgetown is going to be much improved, Campbellsville."
"The Mid-South Conference is a great conference to compete in," Morrissey added. "It should be a good season, expectations are very high, but we're trying to just take it one day at a time and improve from one day to the next."
Lindsey Wilson College is the preseason men's soccer favorite according in the Mid-South Conference.
Lindsey Wilson -- the defending MSC regular season and tournament champion -- received 64 voting points, including eight first-place votes.
University of the Cumberlands is predicted third with 50 voting points.
Campbellsville University, Georgetown College and WVU Tech all tied for fourth in the balloting with 36 voting points. Conference newcomer Shawnee State and St. Catharine College are tied for seventh in the preseason poll with 17 voting points.
Pikeville College -- who received 11 voting points -- completes the preseason poll.
The 2010 MSC men's soccer season begins later this month and concludes with the conference tournament beginning in early November at various sites. The tournament's semifinals and finals are scheduled for Nov. 11-12 at Rio Grande, Ohio.
