Rio Grande --- In an effort to enhance revenue for the school's athletic department, the University of Rio Grande will be charging admission prices for all athletic events beginning with the fall sports. In years past, the only time an admission charge was ever implemented was for post-season contests that the school hosted.
Admission to Rio Grande sporting events will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. All Rio Grande faculty, staff and students will be admitted free of charge with a current form of identification.
University of Rio Grande Director of Athletics Jeff Lanham said fans will have the opportunity to purchase a season pass that would provide them with free admission to any and all athletic events that they decide to attend.
The cost of the season pass is $125 for a single person, $200 for two people and $300 for a family or group of five people.
Lanham talks about the great relationship that Rio Grande has with its fans and hopes that will increase in the future, and that with the added revenue, the product will get better as well. "Rio has had a great relationship with the surrounding communities for many years. We will continue to strive to bring a successful product for our fans to experience," Lanham said. "We believe Rio Athletics is a very important part of southeastern Ohio. Our athletes are very proud to be a part of the community and look forward to visiting with fans!"
This change goes into effect immediately and will begin with the opening men's soccer game on August 25.
