Rio's Mattia fails to qualify for 400 hurdle finals

Marion, Ind. --- University of Rio Grande junior Cassie Mattia was unable to advance to the finals of the 400-meter hurdle event at the NAIA Track & Field National Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University.

 

Mattia, who was ranked 15th in the nation in the 400 hurdles coming into the event, finished 15th once again with a time of 1:05.61. There were 18 competitors in the race.

 

The top eight finishers in the event advanced to the finals, which will be run at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday.

Mattia, a native of West Chester, Ohio, finished 15th in the pre-lims with a time of 1:04.38. The time was just a bit slower than her qualifying time of 1:03.74.
