Rio Grande wins third straight with shutout of Bryan at Cedarville Tournament

Cedarville, Oh. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team, ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll, defeated Bryan College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in the third game of the Dave Jones Memorial Tournament at Cedarville University.

Rio Grande (3-1) received all it needed from freshman forward Scott Bibby (Doncaster, England). Bibby recorded two goals in leading the RedStorm to victory.

It was the third goal of the tournament for Bibby, who picked up where he left off, having scored the final goal in the 4-2 Friday night win over Mid-Continent. Bibby is the team's leading scorer through the first four games, as he has accumulated four goals on the season.

On his first goal, Bibby beat the goalkeeper to a loose ball and scored on an open net in the 33rd minute.

Rio took the 1-0 lead to halftime.

Bibby scored his second marker of the game in the 84th minute when he teamed up with junior mid-fielder Chris Anderson (Lancaster, England).

Anderson got in on the act and closed the scoring with two seconds remaining the game when he recorded an unassisted goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Lower (South Webster, OH) picked up the shutout and recorded two saves.

Rio has now been ranked in the Top 25 for the last 16 polls dating back to the 2007 season.

Rio will have its home opener next Saturday against fellow perennial NAIA power Lindsey Wilson College. The Blue Raiders are currently ranked fourth in the NAIA Top 25. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Evan Davis Field.

With Rio Grande now residing in the Mid-South Conference, the conference title could be on the line in this match-up. The Blue Raiders were picked to win the Mid-South Conference with Rio Grande landing right behind them in the No. 2 spot.

Rio and LWC have met twice previously in NAIA Tournament matches with each school gaining a victory.
