Athens, Ohio --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's and women's track and field squads were back in action on Saturday, competing at the Ohio Open. Rio put together some solid performances in the non-scoring meet.
Junior middle-distance runner Cassie Mattia (West Chester, OH) had the top performance of the day as she won the 800-meter run, covering the distance in 2:27.65. Sophomore sprinter Kayla Graves (Chillicothe, OH) also ran well, finishing 3rd overall in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:02.12. In addition to her effort in the 400, Graves ran 7th in the 200-meter dash (27.35).
Sophomore Molly Roark (South Webster, OH) registered a fifth place finish in the javelin with a top toss of 30.64 meters.
Other RedStorm women's results were as follows: freshman Hayley McSurley (Plumwood, OH), 7th in the 100-meter dash (13.57); sophomore Tracie Brown (Logan, OH), 7th in the discus (35.72 meters) and 10th in the hammer throw (36.16m) and freshman Kim Strunk (Milford, OH) was 8th in both the shot put (11.22 meters) and the discus (35.21m).
