RedStorm women drop first MSC game
Williamsburg, Ky. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm women's soccer team took to the pitch for their first Mid-South Conference game on Saturday afternoon on the road at the University of Cumberlands. Cumberlands won the game 3-1 on the strength of a pair of second half goals.
Rio Grande (0-2, 0-1 MSC) and Cumberlands (1-0, 1-0 MSC) played a hard fought, back and forth game with the Patriots able to hold home serve.Cumberlands scored a goal in the fourth minute of the game and was able to take the 1-0 lead to the intermission.
Cumberlands went up 2-nil in the fourth minute of the second half, which gave them all the points needed to win the match.
Freshman forward Mallarie Lewis (Pataskala, OH) scored on the PK and Rio had cut the deficit in half.
Cumberlands put the game on ice with a final goal, coming in the 84th minute.
Rio Grande will have its first home game of the season on Thursday, September 10 at 6 p.m. against Ohio Valley University at Evan Davis Field. This game was originally slated for Tuesday, but has been moved to Thursday due to a scheduling conflict.
