RedStorm track has final tune-up for MSC Meet

Athens, OH --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's and women's track and field teams had their final preparations for next week's Mid-South Conference Meet at the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio University this past weekend. 

 
The women finished 15th (out of 16 teams), scoring four points. The RedStorm men
produced some solid finishes, but did not register a team score against a stacked field of NCAA Division I and Division II teams. 
 
Junior Cassie Mattia (West Chester, OH) continued her outstanding season as she produced the four points for the RedStorm by finishing 5th in the 400-meter hurdles. 
Mattia had a time of 1:05.32. 
 

Freshman Kim Strunk (Milford, OH) recorded a strong 20th place finish in the shot put with a best effort of 12.44 meters. She was 29th in the discus (36.79 meters). Sophomore sprinter Kayla Graves (Chillicothe, OH) finished 20th overall in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 1:01.72. She was 34th in the 200-meter dash (27.60). 

 
Sophomore thrower Tracie Brown (Logan, OH) was 26th in the shot put (10.59 meters), 30th in the discus (36.48 meters) and 31st in the hammer throw (37.44 meters). Junior Rachel Walker (Ironton, OH) was 27th in the discus (37.07 meters) and placed 34th in
the hammer (35.30 meters) while sophomore Cory Crutcher (Eaton, OH) was right behind Walker in the hammer in 35th place (33.23m). 
 

Other RedStorm women's results had freshman Hayley McSurley (Plumwood, OH) finishing 31st in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.25. Freshman Holly Haines (McConnellsville, OH) was 38th in the 800-meter run (2:47.09) and junior Hillary Haines (McConnellville, OH) was 39th in the 800 (2:49.51). 

 

Next up: Rio Grande will host the Mid-South Conference Meet next weekend, April 23-24 at the Stockmeister Track & Field Complex. The meet will begin on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
