UNION, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team finds itself in 11th place after Monday's opening round of the River States Conference Fall Preview at the Lassing Pointe Golf Club.
The RedStorm tallied a 40-over par team total of 324, the highest score among the 11 participating squads and 37 shots behind tournament leader Indiana University East.
Asbury University finished day one four shots behind the Red Wolves in second place with a 7-over par 291, while Midway University and Point Park University were tied for third at 17-over 301.
Teams actually completed an 18-hole first round and the first nine holes of the second round on Monday, with the final nine holes of round two and all of round three scheduled for Tuesday.
Rio Grande's low individual score came from sophomore Logan Sheets (Bidwell, OH), who finished as part of a six-way tie for 25th place after carding a 7-over par 78.
The RedStorm also had freshman Patrick England (Peebles, OH) as part of the six-way tie for 42nd place with a 10-over par 81, while sophomore Jacob Kalman (Berlin, OH) was among five players tied for 48th place with an 11-over 82, freshman Jarod Lemaster (Jackson, OH) was tied for 53rd place after finishing with an 83 and freshman Tanner Manning (Ironton, OH) was 56th with a 21-over par 92.
