NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Point Park (Pa.) University is predicted as the top team in the 2017-18 River States Conference Men's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Pioneers won the RSC Tournament last season, their fourth conference championship in a span of five years.
Point Park earned nine of the possible 11 first-place votes in the polling of the 12 RSC men's golf head coaches. The Pioneers collected 115 total votes. The Pioneers have three of their five players from the conference championship returning this year.
Asbury (Ky.) University came in second in the preseason poll with 110 votes and garnered the other three first-place votes. The Eagles finished second in the conference tournament last year, just three shots behind Point Park.
Brescia (Ky.) University was picked third with 94 votes. The Bearcats were fourth in the conference last season and won the conference tournament in 2015-16. IU East was predicted fourth in the poll with 87 votes. The Red Wolves placed third in the league a year ago.
Midway (Ky.) University received 74 votes to place fifth, the same spot it finished last year. Starting with Midway, the preseason poll follows the same order of finish from the 2016-17 championship. Cincinnati Christian is sixth with 71 votes, WVU Tech seventh with 70 votes, Ohio Christian eighth with 50 votes, IU Kokomo ninth with 43 votes, Alice Lloyd 10th with 36 votes and Carlow 11th with 22 votes.
Rio Grande, with its brand-new team, was 12th with 20 votes.
The 2017-18 season features the RSC Men's & Women's Golf Fall Preview Tournament Oct. 9-10 at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky. The conference championship will be held in the spring season with the RSC Tournament April 17-18 at the same venue of Lassing Pointe. Two teams and the individual medalist from the RSC will qualify for the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship May 15-18 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis., Ill.
