NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Midway (Ky.) University was voted as the unanimous favorite in the 2017-18 River States Conference Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Eagles are the two-time defending conference tournament champions, including a victory by 43 strokes last year.
Midway received every possible first-place vote and earned 72 votes in the polling of the conference's women's golf head coaches. Midway has represented the conference at the NAIA national tournament the last two years and returns every player from last year's RSC championship group.
Asbury (Ky.) University came in second in the preseason poll with 62 votes. The Eagles were second place at last year's RSC Tournament.
IU East placed third in the poll with 56 votes and the remaining first-place vote. The Red Wolves were third at last year's conference tourney.
Brescia (Ky.) University checked in at fourth in the poll, up one spot from last year's finish, with 48 votes. IU Kokomo, which was fourth in the conference a year ago, was picked fifth this preseason with 45 votes.
Point Park (Pa.) University came in sixth with 34 votes, just ahead of Ohio Christian University in seventh with 30 votes. Carlow (Pa.) University earned 25 votes for eighth place followed by two new programs competing in the conference -- Cincinnati Christian University in ninth with 24 votes and University of Rio Grande in 10th with nine votes.
The 2017-18 season features the RSC Men's & Women's Golf Fall Preview Tournament Oct. 9-10 at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky. The same venue will host the conference championship in the spring season for the RSC Tournament April 16-17. The team winner and individual medalist will automatically qualify for the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship May 22-25 at LPGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
