RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Harry Reilly scored one goal and assisted on another, leading the University of Rio Grande to a 3-1 win over Roosevelt University, Saturday night, in non-conference men's soccer action at Evan E. Davis Field.
The RedStorm, ranked No. 2 in the most recent NAIA coaches' poll, improved to 2-0 with the victory.
The Lakers slipped to 1-1 with the loss.
Reilly - a junior from Coventry, England - gave Rio Grande a lead it would never relinquish just 12:26 into the contest, blistering a one-timer from 25 yards out past Roosevelt goal keeper Gary Mendoza for a 1-0 advantage.
The lead grew to 2-0 when Reilly assisted on a goal by junior Eduardo Zurita (Sant Boi de Llobregat, Spain) with 9:00 left in the opening half, while sophomore Deri Corfe (Chester, England) netted the RedStorm's final marker of the night on a direct kick from just above the 18-yard box with 34:06 remaining in the match.
Roosevelt, which was playing Rio Grande for the first time, avoided a shutout when Josue Leal scored on a penalty kick with 2:33 left to play.
Rio Grande finished with a 19-3 edge in shots, including a 10-2 cushion in shots on goal.
Freshman Luis Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) recorded one save in goal for the RedStorm.
Mendoza had three saves in the loss for the Lakers before giving way to Jesus Velasco - who also finished with three saves - in the second half.
Rio Grande returns to action next Saturday, making a long road trip to Alabama to face the University of Mobile.
