Rio soccer adds Warren's Scott

Rio Grande --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team has signed Daniel Scott of Warren High School to a national letter of intent. Scott will begin playing for the RedStorm in the fall of 2010.

Scott, a 5'9" defender, comes to Rio Grande after having outstanding junior and senior seasons in which he earned 2nd team all-district honors as a junior and 1st team all-district as a senior.

Rio Grande head coach Scott Morrissey spotted Scott an all-star game held on the Rio campus and liked what he saw. "He's another kid that certainly stood out," Morrissey said. "He comes from a good background, good high school program; great high school coach, there are no two ways about that."

"He's going to be close to making that varsity roster," Morrissey added. "I think he'll have a little bit of growing up to do. A little bit of maturity in terms of trying to break into that first team, but he's someone that works hard at it and I think he's got a chance."

"We're excited to have Daniel come on board."

Scott said signing with Rio Grande is a dream come true for him. "I'm very happy to be signing with Rio Grande, it is a dream come true," he said. "It's an all-around good school."

He plans to major in sports and exercise studies.

Scott describes the type of player that he is and what he will bring with him to Rio Grande and also touches on what he feels he needs to improve on to be a successful collegiate player. "I'm a physical player, that is my best attribute," he said. "I need to get used to the fast pace of college soccer."

Scott has set a goal to establish himself as a member of the varsity squad. "My ultimate goal is to be on the first team three of the four years (in college)," he said."

Daniel is the son of Darren and Sheila Scott of Marietta.

He joins Tyler Kuhner, Jordan Jenkins and Paul Wyatt Smith of Zane Trace High School as the current members of the 2010 Rio Grande men's soccer recruiting class.

Rio Grande finished the 2009 season with an 18-3-3 record and advanced to the NAIA semifinals for the fourth time in school history.
