RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Brandon Massey had a first-place finish and two runner-up showings, while Mike Norris and Nikola Andjelic had first-place finishes for the University of Rio Grande men's track and field during weekend action at two different sites.
Massey, a sophomore from Waxhaw, N.C., finished first in the 400-meter dash at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by the University of Cincinnati with a time of 49.37, while taking second in both the 200-meter dash (22.04) and long jump (6.48m).
Norris, a sophomore from Dayton, Ohio, was first in the 800-meter run at the All-Ohio after crossing the finish line in 1:53.54, while Andjelic - a junior from Split, Croatia - had the top showing in the decathlon and met the "B" qualifying standard for the NAIA national championship with 6,195 points.
The RedStorm had seven other Top 10 finishes by individuals and one by a relay unit at the All-Ohio.
The list of superlative performances included junior Clinton Campbell (Malta, OH), who was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.78; freshman Connor Messer (Ashland, KY), who placed second in the pole vault by clearing 4.27m; sophomore Phil Colbert (North Philadelphia, PA), who was third in the 800 with a time of 1:58.66; senior Floyd Lowry (St. Paris, OH), who placed fourth in the 400 with a finish of 56.66; senior Matt Engstrom (Dover, OH), who took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:10.70; sophomore Jacob Click (Gallipolis, OH), who was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38; and junior Isaiah Chapman (Cincinnati, OH), who finished ninth in the 200 with a time of 24.03.
Rio's 4x100 relay team - comprised of Chapman, Massey, Campbell and Click - finished second with a time of 42.81.
The RedStorm also recorded seven more Top 10 outings at the Jasmine Claggett Memorial hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan University in Buckhannon, W.Va.
The top showings included senior Isaac Andrews (Nelsonville, OH), who second in the shot put with an effort of 14.26m and seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.53m; freshman Zack Collins (Newark, OH), who was fourth in the hammer throw with a heave of 44.36m and sixth in the discus throw with a toss of 41.40m; freshman Adam Champer (Malvern, OH), who was fifth in the discus throw with an effort of 42.11m; freshman River Spicer (West Milton, OH), who was seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:54.20; and freshman Joe Beegle (Racine, OH), who was 10th in the shot put with a toss of 12.51m.
Rio Grande finished 11th among the 12 teams at the Claggett Memorial and was eighth among 11 team scores at the All-Ohio.
Rio Grande returns to action on Friday, sending athletes to both the Otterbein Twilight Invitational in Westerville, Ohio and to the Jesse Owens Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
