RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Tyanna Petty and Allison McNeal both met national championship "B" qualifying standards, while Katie Roberts had a trio of Top 10 finishes for the University of Rio Grande women's track and field over the weekend.
Petty finished second in the heptathlon at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by the University of Cincinnati, while McNeal took second place in the shot put at the Jasmine Claggett Memorial hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan University in Buckhannon, W.Va.
Petty, a junior from Somerset, Ohio, tallied 4,619 points to surpass the qualifying mark of 3,700 points. Her total currently ranks as the third-highest mark in the NAIA.
McNeal, a freshman from Logan, Ohio, had a heave of 13.16m to surpass the qualifying standard of 13.05m. The toss currently ranks 18th nationally.
Roberts, a senior from Vinton, Ohio was among those representing the RedStorm at the Claggett Memorial and gave the team its only top finish, taking first place in the hammer throw with an effort of 44.91m.
Roberts also finished fourth in both the shot put (12.66m) and discus throw (37.39m).
Rio Grande finished seventh among the 10 teams at the Claggett Memorial and was 13th among 13 team scores at the All-Ohio.
The RedStorm had four other Top 10 showings at the All-Ohio including senior Bre West (Gallipolis, OH), who was fourth in the long jump with an effort of 4.69m; junior Emili Sannes (Carlisle, OH), who was seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.08; and junior Marissa McConaha (Duncan Falls, OH) who was seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.23 and eighth in the 200-meter dash after crossing in 29.08.
Rio also managed seven other Top 10 outings at the Claggett Memorial including freshman Natalie Seeberg (Urbana, OH), who was second in the hammer throw with a heave of 39.86m and ninth in the discus throw with an effort of 30.92m; McNeal, who was third in the discus at 41.07m; senior Alex Ellis (Ona, WV), who placed fourth in the 800-meter run at 2:29.79; and the trio of sophomore Taylor Monk (Ironton, OH), senior McKenzie Coriell (Lucasville, OH) and senior Shelby Pickens (Racine, OH), who finished 6-7-8 in the javelin throw with tosses of 30.30m, 24.83m and 23.67m, respectively.
Rio Grande returns to action on Friday, sending athletes to both the Otterbein Twilight Invitational in Westerville, Ohio and to the Jesse Owens Invitational in Columbus, Ohio..
