WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Tyanna Petty had a trio of Top 10 finishes and Bre West had two top five outings to lead the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team at Saturday's University of the Cumberlands Invitational.
Petty, a junior from Somerset, Ohio, finished second in the high jump (1.62m), sixth in the long jump (4.96m) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.88), while West - a senior from Gallipolis, Ohio - took fourth in both the long jump (4.99m) and the pole vault (2.58m).
The RedStorm had eight other Top 10 showings among individuals and one relay team which finished in the Top 10 at the meet, which was not a team scored event.
Other top outings for Rio included freshman Allison McNeal (Logan, OH), who was fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 34.35m; sophomore Lucy Williams (Athens, OH), who was fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:24.55; senior Katie Roberts (Vinton, OH), who was fifth in the hammer throw with an effort of 41.35m and sixth in the shot put with a heave of 11.96m; junior Keri Lawrence (Pomeroy, OH), who was sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:11.13; freshman Reaghan Haines (Hillsboro, OH), who placed sixth in the pole vault after clearing 2.13m; senior Shelby Pickens (Racine, OH), who was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.63; and senior Clarissa Johnson-Kosnich (Hillsboro, OH), who was 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.55.
The RedStorm 4x100 relay team - which features West, freshman Maria Fondale (New Lexington, OH), junior Marissa McConaha (Duncan Falls, OH) and sophomore Kayla Charmichael (Newark, OH) - placed ninth with a time of 52.47.
Rio Grande returns to action on Friday at the Centre College Twilight Meet in Danville, Ky.
