ATHENS, Ohio - Tyanna Petty had a pair of first place finishes and set a new personal record in another event to lead the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team to a second place finish at the Cherry Blossom Invitational, Saturday afternoon, at Ohio University.
Petty, a junior from Somerset, Ohio, finished first in both the High Jump (1.65m) and the 200-Meter Dash (26.67), while setting a new personal-best mark with a toss of 25.04m to finish fourth in the Javelin Throw.
Petty also placed third in the 100-Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.22.
The RedStorm finished second as a team with 22 points, well behind the host Bobcats, who tallied 95 points. Marshall University and the University of Charleston tied for third in the team competition with 21 points.
Rio Grande also got a first place finish from sophomore Lucy Williams (Athens, OH) in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase after crossing in 12:18.50, while senior Katie Roberts (Vinton, OH) placed second in the Shot Put with a heave covering 12.64m.
The RedStorm also registered 24 other Top 10 individual performances and had one relay team post a Top 5 showing.
Individually, junior Kylie Caudill (Pickerington, OH) was fourth in the Triple Jump with an effort of 9.05m and 10th in the Long Jump after covering 4.42m; junior Emili Sannes (Carlisle, OH), who was fourth in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 2:29.70; freshman Allison McNeal (Logan, OH), who was fifth in the Shot with a toss of 12.15m and seventh in the Discus Throw with an effort of 35.15m; senior Shelby Pickens (Racine, OH), who placed fifth in the Javelin with a throw of 25.24m; senior Clarissa Johnson-Kosnich (Hillsboro, OH), who was fifth in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 1:05.49; senior Alex Ellis (Ona, WV), who placed fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:32.44; junior Maddie Rigsby (Tuppers Plains, OH), who was sixth in the High Jump after clearing 1.55m; sophomore Taylor Monk (Ironton, OH), who was sixth in Javelin with a throw of 33.36m; junior Aubrey Dunfee (Baltimore, OH), who was sixth in the 5,000-Meter Run with a time of 19:49.39; and freshman Marissa Commons (Maple Heights, OH), who was sixth in the 400 after crossing in a time of 1:06.17.
Roberts also finished seventh in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 40.97m and eighth in the Discus with a throw of 34.70m; junior Marissa McConaha (Duncan Falls, OH), who was seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:07.23; junior Keri Lawrence (Pomeroy, OH), who placed eighth in the 1,500-Meter Run with a time of 5:07.02; sophomore Brooke Schofield (Pioneer, OH), who was eighth in the 400 with a time of 1:08.53; freshman Natalie Seeberg (Urbana, OH), who was ninth in both the Discus and Hammer with heaves of 31.58m and 34.43m, respectively; freshman Maria Fondale (New Lexington, OH), who was ninth in the 200 with a time of 28.47; sophomore Maggie Dellinger (Washington Court House, OH), who was 10th in the 1,500 with a finish of 5:18.95; sophomore Taylor Grubb (Thornville, OH), who was 10th in the 800 with a time of 2:46.62; sophomore Kayla Charmichael (Newark, OH), who was 10th in the 400 with a time of 1:11.07; and sophomore Alexis Johnson (Mercerville, OH), who was 12th in the Hammer with a toss of 28.20m.
The RedStorm's 4x100 relay team - comprised of Schofield, Fondale, McConaha and Charmichael - finished fourth in a time of 53.45.
A handful of athletes representing Rio also competed at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C., but none finished in the Top 10.
Rio Grande returns to action next weekend at the University of Cumberlands Invitational in Williamsburg, Ky.
